• Do you have any tips on maintaining my printer?
All Printers Require Good Preventive Maintenance

The number one complaint about poor print quality, specifically streaking print, white lines through the print, or no print at all, can be avoided by frequent use of your printer.   These print problems are caused by ink drying up in the print head or nozzles, clogging them and preventing ink from reaching the paper. If you don't use your printer regularly you can help keep it in working order by printing a test page or running a print head cleaning cycle once a week.   Consult your printer's manual for additional or more specific preventative maintenance tips.

    Power Down Properly

Always use your printer's power switch rather than the switch on a surge protector to shut the unit down. Most ink jet printers have a print head parking function that's triggered by the printer's own power switch. This ensures that your cartridges are 'sealed' properly and not exposed to the drying effects of ambient air.
Do not run back-to-back cleaning cycles. (this applies to all printers)
Give the cartridge a chance to let some ink flow in between cleaning cycles. This will purge air bubbles or foamy ink that a cleaning cycle may have created.   Print a test page or a color balanced image. If the printing quality hasn't improved, run another cleaning cycle and test it again. Repeat the process as often as needed.

  • How do I clean HP Printheads on my HP Printer?
    Items you will need:
    • Soft cloth
    • Filtered water
    • Paper or paper towel
Step 1) Turn the printer on, open the top cover and wait two to three seconds.
Step 2) Unplug the cord from the back of the printer and then unplug the other end of the cord from the wall. Turning off the printer this way keeps the print cartridges in a location you can reach.
Step 3) Lift the printhead latch, which houses the print cartridges, and pull the printhead out of the slot.
Step 4) Wipe the contact pads on the printhead with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Do not wipe the nozzles on the underside of the printhead because this can cause damage.
Step 5) Dip the cloth in distilled, filtered or bottled water and wipe the contact pads again if ink residue still remains.
Step 6) Put the printhead on a sheet of paper or paper towel, making sure the nozzles don't touch the paper.
Step 7) Clean the contact points in the printhead slot with the cloth and allow everything to dry for five minutes.
Step 8) Plug the power cord back into the wall and then the other end back into the printer. At this point, the control panel should show that a printhead is missing.
Step 9) Put the printhead back in the correct slot and press down firmly to make sure it is in place.
Step 10) Shut the printhead latch, applying some pressure to make sure the latch is engaged.
Step 11) Close the printer cover. The printer will initialize the printheads and the printer should print correctly now.

  • There is streaking or spots on the printouts or quality of the printout is poor from the toner, how can I fix it?
There could be particles that settle on the imaging unit during the manufacturing process or during transportation that causes occasional light streaking or spots. These issues typically clear up after a few printouts.
One step to try is running the printer through a cleaning cycle before printing. Run the printer through a full cleaning cycle (consult your printer's manual if necessary).

Should that not work, please try the following:
Step 1) Turn the power off to the machine.
Step 2) Remove the cartridge and gently turn the cartridge side to Side2-3 times to evenly distribute the toner.
Step 3) Turn the power on to the machine and allow it to restart normally.
Step 4) Print out about 10-20 pages of text or images from the printer. The streaking and spots should clear up at that point.

  • What if my printer is not detecting the inkjet cartridges?
If your printer does not recognize the inkjet, you can clean the chip to ensure the contact points are communicating correctly.
1.) Turn on the printer and open the top cover. The print cartridge (print head) cradle moves to the center of the printer.
2.) With the door open and the cartridge cradle in the center position, unplug the power cord at the printer or wall. This will freeze the carriage in place. “DO NOT” try to move the carriage back to the docking position, this can damage the printer.
3.) Remove the print cartridge (print head) from the printer. Beware: Do not leave the print cartridge uncapped for more than 8 minutes or the nozzle may clog.
4.) Clean the chip on the ink cartridge with lintfree cloth or cotton swab. Distilled (drinking) water is recommended. Tap water may contain contaminates.  Moisten lightly the cloth or swab and remove any contaminates (grease or ink) build up. Used a second cloth or swab to remove all moisture from the contacts, both in the printer and cartridge(s).
5.) Reinstall the print cartridge(s) (print head), closed lid, and reconnect the power source back to the printer.
6.) Verify with the printer or computer that any ink error(s) has been eliminated.
